🌿 Vaginitis, intimate discomfort… What if it comes from your household products?
You take care of your body. You pay attention to what you eat, you choose natural products...
But have you ever thought that what you use to wash your skin, bathe or wear on your clothes could have a direct impact on your intimate health?
Let's talk about a subject that is not discussed enough: vaginitis and intimate imbalances caused by everyday products.
Why is this important?
The intimate area is a fragile mucous membrane, protected by a natural flora composed of good bacteria.
This flora maintains a slightly acidic pH (around 4.5), which prevents infections from setting in.
But this balance can be easily disrupted. And some common products in our bathrooms are real disruptors… invisible ones .
🚫 The Silent Culprits
Here are some ingredients that are often found in household or cosmetic products and can cause irritation or promote infections:
• Synthetic perfumes : they smell “clean”, but are often irritating to the skin and mucous membranes.
• Sulfates (SLS, SLES) : used for foaming, but too aggressive.
• Antibacterial agents : kill the “bad”... but also the “good”.
• Chemical preservatives (parabens, phenoxyethanol, etc.)
• Artificial, unnecessary and sensitizing colors .
• Polysorbate 20/80 : dispersants often used to mix oils and water in bath bombs, but derived from petrochemicals and potentially irritating to the intimate flora.
Products to watch out for in your daily life
Some seemingly harmless actions can actually disrupt your intimate balance:
1. Body soap
Especially if it's heavily scented or antibacterial. Even a "gentle" skin product can be too harsh on your intimate flora.
2. Laundry soap
Soap residue in underwear comes into direct contact with the vulva. Overly perfumed or irritating detergent can cause itching or recurring vaginitis.
3. Bath products
Bath bombs, bubble baths, scented oils... All of these products can upset the flora if they are rich in synthetic fragrances or unnatural ingredients.
4. Household cleaners for the shower or bathtub
Even if they don't come into direct contact with your body, residue left on surfaces can end up in your bath water... and irritate your skin or mucous membranes.
🌸 How to maintain your intimate balance naturally?
Fortunately, it is entirely possible to take care of yourself without compromising your intimate health.
Here are some simple actions:
• Choose naturally saponified soaps, without synthetic perfume or aggressive surfactants
• Choose gentle, fragrance-free detergents or those made with simple ingredients
• Rinse the bathtub thoroughly before taking a bath (especially if it has been cleaned with a conventional product)
• Avoid antiseptic products for the intimate area, unless medically indicated.
• Listen to your body : if a product causes tingling, discomfort or redness… it’s not right for you.
